Mário Patrocinio is a writer and director that has always been a curious citizen of the world. The places where he lived since childhood marked his ability to look and think about humanity in its deep diversity. His aesthetic influences range from Japan to Cape Verde and Angola, from Rio de Janeiro to Los Angeles, Paris and Lisbon. Mário is known for his cinematic, raw, and emotional way of presenting humans through fiction films, documentaries, and advertising. Mário is a Berlinale talent, has developed internationally acclaimed documentaries such as Complexo - Parallel Universe (nº 1 box office in Portugal), and won the best international feature at the Artivist Film Festival. "I Love kuduro" was also a mark in his career, portraying the urban phenomenon that includes dance, music, fashion, and contemporary art born in Africa and highlighted by Nowness for its uniqueness. He has worked with major advertising agencies around the world. His body of work contains a wide range of brands, such as Mercedes, Nike, Coca-Cola, Nivea, L'Oreal Paris, BMW, Audi, SATA Airlines, Visa, Universal Music, Sony Music, Red Bull, EMI, Nestlé, Unitel, Galp Energy, and Vodafone, among others.
He has directed films for campaigns that won prestigious awards, including Cannes Lions, the Portuguese Grand Prix for the best campaign, Clio, EuroBest Award, Epicas, El Ojo, New York Festival, among others. He won The "Prix Marie de Cannes" with the film "Dreams" which promotes ethical and responsible practice to create a more equal, united, and sustainable world. In 2023, Mário will release the short film "Before The Moonrise", and the "The Tuner of Silences" - based on the work of renowned African writer Mia Couto. He is now working on his next feature film "My Father's Wives".
