André Carvalho was born in Lisbon in 1976 and graduated in graphic design from IADE in 1999.

In 2007 he began regularly contributing to European surfing magazines, and in 2008 he formed a working partnership with Volcom, still in force.

In 2014, he was the chosen photographer by Tourism of Portugal to accompany Garrett McNamara, the big wave surfer, through mainland Portugal and islands. In 2015, he won Portugal's most prestigious surfing award, the Ondas de Ouro, in the photography of the year category.
